A Prisoner Saved

a life full of sin

a body corrupt

a past full of crime

that's hard to give up

our country has tried

to help change me inside

but when released on my own

I could not abide

then one night I prayed

as I knelt in my cell

and I asked the Lord Jesus

to save me from Hell

At that moment I knew

my life would be changed

I'd be given a new name

not sick or deranged

I received a new spirit

that taught me right from wrong

it gave me strength to do good

when I didn't feel strong

no social system or government plea

helped me to live righteous

in society

no money, no sanctions

no freedom, not time

but only the gift

of Christ's love divine

a chance to start over

with a past that's forgiven

a goal in my life

a reason for living

My life's still not easy

I must die everyday

I must pick up my cross

and continually pray

But with Jesus

I have a life that is new

a strength ever present

a friend that is true.
